After long days of hard work Project Peace Latin America arrived in Les Cayes in southern Haiti to host a day of soccer and peace. It took amazing teamwork from Eglantina Zingg our president, Bibi Nunez, our director, Andreina Seijas our project manager, Kike Correa our team logistics and Christopher de Haydu our doctor. Our partners Peterson Jerome from Haiti Youth Development and Education; our sponsor and friend Georges Farah, president of Office Star; our camera Yves Eduard Severe and our friends from Cap Haitien Demi and Jonhson made it all very easy with their tireless help.
On Saturday, October 22nd we welcomed 230 students and 10 principals from the schools of Cavaillon to the soccer field in Les Cayes. Each school received a duffel bag with 25 sets of uniforms, water bottles, 10 soccer balls and air pumps. We hosted a friendly game between Haiti’s renowned youth team Shana and the local U15 team from Les Cayes. Later in the afternoon, the United Nations Mission (MINUSTAH) soccer team and the Presidential team played and scored for peace and understanding. It was a 2 – 0 win for MINUSTAH and an absolute victory for everyone who was there.
We left with a heavy heart and a pledge to return for the inter-school soccer championship final match in May. From everyone at PPLA, thank you all! For joining this project and making it happen.
